Mild Briyani – Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 500g MILD BRIYANIsauce
  • 1kg lamb or chicken,pieces
  • 3-4 large potatoes
  • 30ml oil
  • ¼ teaspoon egg yellow powder
  • +/- ½ cup lentils
  • 2 cups rice tastic or
  • 3 cups Bismati rice
  • 125g butter cut into cubes
  • Salt for rice & potatoes

DIRECTIONS

Preparation:

  1. Marinate meat or chicken overnight in sauce.
  2. Peel and cut potatoes into wedges and deep fry in oil.
  3. Remove and sprinkle with a 1/2 of the egg yellow powder & season with salt.
  4. Separately parboil lentils and rice with salt (1 tsp of salt for every cup of rice or lentils)

For Lamb

  1. Heat oil on high. Add meat and cook for 15 mins uncovered.
  2. Reduce heat to low and cook for 40 mins covered.
  3. Layer potatoes, then lentils, and rice on top of meat.
  4. Place butter cubes on top and sprinkle with egg yellow powder.
  5. Simmer on low for 30 mins until potatoes and meat are soft. No liquid should be seen at the bottom of
    the pot.

Please note: [500g meat if using 200g sauce] Carefully note the quantity of meat used & use sauce
accordingly
